Intro to Recording Workshop - Four 90 minute classes $300
​

This program is for those seeking to understand the fundamentals of home recording. We will teach you everything you need to know in order to produce quality recordings on your home system. *This class is limited to 5 students to allow for as much hands on time as possible. This four week series of 90-minute classes will cover the following:

WEEK ONE
  • Different ways to record (DAW, Tape, Handheld Devices)
  • Microphone Basics (types and their uses)
  • Signal Flow (the direction of an audio source into the recording device)
  • Choosing gear (What is really essential for home recording?)
  • Preamps (what they do and why they matter)

WEEK TWO
  • Preproduction (why it is so important for efficiency and quality)
  • Label Everything! (why this could save your entire project)
  • Phasing and how to avoid it
  • Tracking Instruments / Mic Placements / Setting Levels
    • ​Acoustic Guitars
    • Electric Guitars
    • Bass Guitar

WEEK THREE
  • Tracking Instruments
    • ​Drum-set / Mic Placements

WEEK FOUR
  • ​Vocals
  • Intro to Basic Mixing Techniques
  • What makes a great mix?
  • ​​Find and emphasize the groove
  • EQ essentials
  • Organization is key! (How to set up your mix for success)

Intro to Mixing Workshop - Four 90 minute classes $300

This program is for those who are continuing their education after taking the Intro to Recording Workshop or may already know how to record the sounds they want, but need some insights and tips on how to achieve the sound they are hearing in their head. In this four week workshop, we will show you basic mixing techniques and some of the tricks of the trade from our heroes in the industry. *This class is limited to 5 students to allow for as much hands on time as possible. This four week series of 90 minute classes will cover the following:

WEEK ONE
  • Organization is key! (How to set up your tracks so you are efficient)
  • ​Establishing a starting point (What instrument should you start with?)
  • Panning across the stereo field (Instrument placement in the mix)
  • EQ's and why one cut is worth a thousand boosts!

WEEK TWO
  • EQ settings for each instrument (Making sonic space for each element)
  • ​What is  a gate and is it necessary?
  • What is a compressor and do I need to use it?
  • Compression techniques

WEEK THREE
  • Effects and why we use them (Reverbs, delays, modulation)
  • Pitch Correction (When and where to use it)
  • Adding excitement to a mix! (Automation and dynamics)
  • Rough Mixes and why they matter

WEEK FOUR
  • Creating the final mix​
  • Critical Listening and how not to loose your mind
  • Listening on different systems (Why this is so important)
  • Getting the project ready for mastering
    • ​Appropriate levels
    • Formats 
    • Labeling
  • ​What is Mastering and do I need it?
  • ​Industry secrets and techniques of the pros!
